Local-News 2

Hard drugs worth billions of naira have been intercepted by security agents in the port after being trafficked from India.

The Nigerian customs service says it has intercepted forty 40-foot containers loaded with tramadol and other dangerous drugs from India worth N7,398,978,065.00.

The Comptroller- General of Customs, Colonel Hameed Ali (retired), said today that three suspects, including customs officials who removed the containers, were arrested for further investigation.

Ali also revealed that NCS officials also intercepted a helicopter and an aircraft from the United States of America for failing to provide the end-user certificate and other documents.

He said: “The service is not limited to concerted efforts to ensure that only maximum income is collected, but also to safeguard the safety and welfare of citizens.

“We are all aware of the dangers posed to our nation by deliberate non-compliance with import and export procedures, since importers carry all kinds of items that put the nation’s health and safety at risk.

“Terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements acquire these assets, like controlled drugs, to perpetrate their atrocious activities.
